At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear! But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!”
What do you make of the fact that Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit just after she heard Mary’s greeting and her baby leaped in her womb?
What particular promises during this season of your life do you need to remind yourself to believe the Lord will fulfill?
Is there someone in your life you could encourage because they took a step of faith, believing God for their future, their healing, their material needs, or something else?
Father in heaven, my heart soars as I read the story of Mary and Elizabeth. How blessed they must have felt as you filled them with the Holy Spirit and fulfilled in them so many prophecies spoken hundreds of years before. Thank you that your promises are true. I pray, Father, that you would give me eyes to see the ways you have blessed me and those around me. Help me remember your promises and believe them. How often I forget, or get distracted! Give me words to encourage the people I know who have exercised courage and taken steps of faith in their lives. Please bless their faithfulness.
